Steering Students toward Mathematics Excellence!

So I have been at a math conference the last three days in downtown Dallas . It has been so much fun and I have learned so many cool new thing that I can do with my students this next year. If you are a math teacher K-College... I definitely recommend that you go next year! Here is the website for more info: http://www.utdanacenter.org/camt/

So the theme this year is "Steering Students toward Mathematics Excellence!" and here is the mascot:And they did a raffle to see who would get to take him to their campus and keep him! And guess what out of the 6,000 people there... I WON!!! haha... just kidding... Even though he was pink... I didn't want him, so I didn't enter the raffle and therefore guaranteeing that I didn't win him!

I did buy an amazing book though... It is full of fun of math songs. If you want to order one for your classroom, go to www.mathsongs.com

That's the couple that wrote all of the songs... they are so entertaining! I had her autograph my book. Here is an example of one of their songs:
Tune: "The Yellow Rose of Texas")
Copyright 2002, Kay A. Smitherman.

There are songs about division,
Perimeter, percent,
Geometry, equations,
Place value, exponents.
So from elementary to alge-
Bra just sing along.
The lyrics are math lessons
And the tunes familiar songs

Yes, I realize that I'm a math nerd and I'm ok with that. :)

Happy 4th of July!

This is the flag cake that my mom used to always make when I was younger. I decided to carry on the tradition and make it this year for independence day. It is so easy, but sooo yummy! You just bake a white cake (from the box) and when its cool use cool whip and berries to make a flag. Make sure the berries are dry or else it will make a mess! :)Here's Luke... he just keeps getting bigger and bigger! We're getting ready to go swimming on the 4th.
This is Tiffany, Me, and Sarah... We got to Las Colinas early and to get a good spot to watch firework. And of course the boys had to do some fishing in the lake!
Matt is playing with Luke... he is going to be such a good father.... someday!
Right before the firework... I was a little more excited to see the fireworks than Matt, but he loves me so he was enjoying all my excitement.

I just really love fireworks!
After the grand finale there was a fire in the field where they were shooting the fireworks off... We were safe though because it was on the other side of the lake. The firemen were there standing by so the the fire didn't get too out of hand... but fireworks are dangerous and all of you people who shoot of your own should be very careful!!!
On Saturday we had some friend over to hang out. Matt smoked a brisket and it turned out really well! Third times the charm! :) Here is everybody... thanks for coming over guys! I had lot of fun!

Summer

I'm enjoying the summer! I have been keeping myself busy by taking classes at T-Dub. First summer session I'm taking Geometry in the Classroom and Number Theory. Wednesday is my final exam! I can't believe have fast these classes have gone.

I have another class, Algebra in the Classroom, starting on July 7th. By August I will have 18 hours toward my master's degrees... that's half way done. Hopefully I'll be all done by August '09.

That's a picture of the TWU library. Isn't it pretty! :) I've been spending everyday on campus this summer. I feel like a college student again! It really reminds me of my undergrad days.

We went out to lunch at Mazatlan's today... The best part was the price! I got fajitas and Matt got enchilada's for $13 including tip! The food was actually pretty good and they give you free queso... And, across the street was the craziest thing! It was a beauty salon, chainsaw repair store, and night club all in one!

Home Group

We had a progressive dinner with our home group on Sunday. It was so much fun!!! Here is the whole group in my backyard...
We started the evening off at Dawn and Justin's appartment for appetizers. This is Shawn, Deedra, Bethany, and Ken.
This is Craig and Matt enjoying all the good food... They made some many yummy appetizers we had to be careful not to fill up yet b/c we still had lots more good food to eat.
This is Justin and Dawn... they were the appetizer cooks here at their apartment where we started. Thanks for being such good host guys! :)
The newlyweds, Chris and Holly... they were married 1 week ago! Congrats guys! And next to them is Missy and Joe.

Next, we caravaned over to Shawn and Craig's house for the main course. They have a beautiful home and there was soooo much good! She made pulled pork, turkey, potato casserole, salad, watermelon, bread, and more. Thanks for everything guys! :)Finally, we went back to my house for dessert and games. Missy and Bethany made so much dessert that it covered my kitchen table... mmmmm! Thanks guys! We played trivial pursuit 90's edition.... boys vs. girls... yes, I have to admit that the boys won... but it was still a lot of fun!

Congrats to Kenzie and Michael!

We had a really fun weekend! On Friday night we had a girls night and went to see the movie Sex and the City. It was a good movie, but there were a few dirty parts where you have to close your eyes. I guess you have to expect that though because of the title. I heard they already started making a sequel... yea! Here are the girls that went to the movie... On Saturday we drove to Waco for Michael and Kenzie's wedding. They had a beautiful outdoor ceremony and reception at the Earl Harrison House. It was so romantic... you could see the sun setting behind them just as they were saying I Do! Here they are... don't they look so happy! :)
The cupcake tree instead of a wedding cake...mmmm!
The grooms cake looked so real...
Here they are cutting it... oh it was sooo yummy! She also had an ice cream martini bar (where you make your own ice cream sundaes in the martini glasses)
Me and Matt ....A Baylor chamber of commerce tradition (this is the organization they were both in)... singing the Baylor fight song... "That good ole Baylor line!" Sic'em Bears!

Little Luke

Here is Uncle Matt holding little Luke Purdue. Doesn't Matt look like a natural! The pacifier that Luke had was so cute... it had a little stuffed animal sewn to it. The animal had beans in it so if the pacifier fell out of Luke's mouth it stayed on Luke's stomach and didn't fall on the floor and get dirty. Plus it was so cute! Genius idea! You can get one at: www.wubbanub.comLuke's 1st swim suit! Sooo cute! :)
Luke's first swim in the pool... only lasted about 30 seconds, but I think he enjoyed it. This is his proud daddy.
What a beautiful smile... I love this baby!
Aunt Stephanie got to feed Luke his bedtime bottle. He's such a good eater!
Bedtime... good night!
